Sponsorship of a Child studying at the Awake & Shine school, is defined by us as financial, emotional, and material support to a child, by a privileged person or body, to enable the child’s parents to meet the expenses involved in providing the child with a meaningful education. Five out of the 30 children studying at Awake & Shine School have been sponsored by so far. We feel that sponsorship should be direct on a one to one basis. We expect the sponsor, to provide funds for school fees, uniforms, books, toys etc. and to establish an emotional link with the child through exchange of correspondence, greeting cards, gifts and the like The School will assist in establishing and maintaining contact. There are two possible criteria for choosing children for sponsorship - Need and merit. At Samthar the standard of living is near equal, and it is difficult to list the needy. It is true that all the parents do need help for a meaningful education for their children. It is also felt that merit based sponsorship will enable choosing of bright children for sponsorship to English medium schools in Kalimpong, after they complete their 03 years Foundation Course at Awake & Shine Pre School. |

Awake & Shine Pre School has formulated a merit list. The list has been made on the results of the first mid term assessments. This is being regularly updated. Ideally a sponsor should, support the child through the entire schooling stage, which implies that sponsorship should cover initially the 03 years Foundation Course at Awake & Shine Pre School, followed by schooling at an English medium school in Kalimpong for deserving children. Considering that many sponsors may not like to make a commitment on a long term basis, the school recommends a two tier system of sponsorship - 1) Scholarship for Awake and shine Pre school: ( Local Sponsorship) Sponsership is valued at Indian Rupees 3600 per year.( USD 90) Sponsors must be prepared to support the child for 03 years. Total financial commitment: Rs 10800.00 ( USD 270) over 03 years 2) Scholarships for study in a English medium school at Kalimpong after completing 03 years foundation course at Awake & shine pre School.( Kalimpong sponsership) This requirement starts from January 2010. Sponsers must be prepared to support the child for 10-12 years Methodology For local: The Awake & Shine Pre School has drawn up a merit list and will provide bio data with photographs of children, for approval of the donor For Kalimpong: Sponsers may consider building up a corpus.
